HOW TO WORK WITH ADHESIVES?

Before we answer this question, let's talk about dangers that can be caused after the improper work with your glue.

  • Respiratory organs.
Respiratory organs can get irritated. Being exposed to high concentrations of adhesive fumes for long amounts of time may cause a chronical reaction in sensitive people. In a dry environment with less than 50% humidity fumes may irritate eyes and respiratory organs. ⠀

  • Skin irritation.
Glues hitch to the skin in mere seconds. They are considered to have low toxicity but allergic skin reaction is still possible because of polymerization. ⠀

  • Eye irritation.
Glue can irritate eyes. In a dry environment with less than 50% humidity fumes can irritate our eyes and cause lacrimation.
How can a lash artist assure their safety when working with glues?

  • Glue usage.
Always place your glue surface as far away from your face as possible. Under no circumstances use the glue ring! If you do, you'll keep putting the glue right next to your face and respiratory organs.

  • ⠀ Protective masks
Unfortunately, most filter masks (including the ones with carbon canisters) don't protect us from the glue fumes. The easiest way is to use a wet mask because moisture is what polymerizes glue fumes and prevents them from getting into airways.

  • Organize your workplace
Ideally, a range hood that will draw the air out along with the adhesive fumes should be installed above the workplace.

Now you know how to stay healthy and safe while working with adhesives.

Happy lashing!
